Congressman Gus Bilirakis: Lineman for a Day
Congressman Gus Bilirakis: Lineman for a Day!
We were honored to welcome Congressman Gus Bilirakis to WREC for a unique "Lineman for a Day" experience.
During his visit, Congressman Bilirakis spent time connecting with WREC employees, learning firsthand about the daily responsibilities of our line crews, and gaining a deeper understanding of what it takes to keep the lights on for the Members we serve. From reliability and safety practices to the challenges of working in Florida's unpredictable weather, Congressman Bilirakis stepped into the boots of a lineman and experienced the job for himself, rain and lightning included.
Working alongside our experienced personnel at WREC's new Speros Substation near the new Moffitt Cancer Center, which is currently under construction and de-energized, Congressman Bilirakis had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience while learning about the extensive training, dedication, and commitment required to become a lineman. The experience provided valuable insight into the critical work performed every day to ensure reliable electric service for our Members.
As a special thank you, WREC employees signed a WREC hardhat and presented it to Congressman Bilirakis as a keepsake of his experience. Congressman Bilirakis shared that he plans to display the hardhat in his Washington, D.C., office as a reminder of the hardworking men and women who keep the lights on in our communities.
We cannot thank Congressman Bilirakis enough for his continued support of WREC and the electric cooperative industry. His willingness to take the time to better understand the work our employees perform every day demonstrates his commitment to the communities we serve.
It was an incredible learning experience for everyone involved, and we are proud to have shared this opportunity with him. Opportunities like this help showcase the skill, professionalism, and hard work of the men and women who keep our electric system running safely and reliably.
Thank you, Congressman Bilirakis, for spending the day with us and for your ongoing support of WREC, our Members and our employees.
